Brand Spotlight: First Peak
Our shop is growing! We’ve partnered with some amazing brands that offer high-quality products, making it easier and more fun for your family to get outdoors. They also happen to have missions and values that pair well with ours here at Morrison Outdoors. Is there a brand or product that you think we should carry? Let us know by sending an email to hello@morrisonoutdoors.com !
We’re excited to announce that we’ve added First Peak clothing to our online shop! Their founder, Jocelyn, set out to provide sustainable children’s clothing built to withstand the messy, soggy adventures of nature-loving kiddos (including her own!). We sat down with her to learn how she turned a yearning for better clothing options for active kids into a business specializing in sustainable activewear for babies and toddlers.
What is Your Mission at First Peak?
First Peak's mission is to help more families get outside together by removing stress and increasing comfort. We aim to help families create cherished memories together and to help the next generation of kids respect and love the outdoors. I’m very proud to source sustainable, natural materials for all our clothes and to manufacture our products locally in San Francisco, supporting a community that means so much to us.
How Did Your Brand Start?
First Peak makes sustainable adventurewear for babies and toddlers (3 months - 4 years). Our clothes are made in the Bay Area from eco-friendly fabrics and are built for adventure and exploration: they’re odor-resistant, quick-drying, sun-safe, and super soft.
I got the idea for First Peak shortly after my son was born. It was November 2020, in the thick of the pandemic, and the outdoors became our haven. We loved getting outside together as a family, but I quickly grew frustrated with traditional baby clothes. I felt there was an expectation that we’d do 7-10 outfit changes a day, or that items could be worn once and then thrown away. Nothing felt like it was purpose-built for exploration and the outdoors.
We took a trip to Yosemite when my son was about 6 months old, and within 5 minutes of leaving the car, he spilled milk and spit up all over himself. He instantly started to reek, and it didn’t help that he was strapped to my sweaty back in the hot sun all day. By late afternoon, his sleeves had ridden up, and his hands and wrists were burned too.

I figured there must be a brand on the market making performance clothing for babies and toddlers that could work as well as my own activewear. But when I couldn’t find anything that met my needs, I knew I wanted to bring the idea to life.
I was working a full-time job at the time, I had a little one at home, and I had zero experience in garment manufacturing. I didn’t have a moment of saying, “ok, I’m starting a business. Let’s blow this up.” Instead, it was gradual. Goal #1 was to make an outfit for my own son. After years of working in software, just making something tangible felt like a fun challenge. It scaled naturally from there: my next goal was to sell a garment to a friend, and then to a stranger. Before I knew it, I was loving the process of meeting families at farmers’ markets and on trails and introducing them to the clothes my son (and later my daughter, too) was wearing every single day. I’ve been so proud to see this business grow to reach so many families and fuel so many adventures.
Why Do You Feel It’s Important for Families to Get Outdoors?
I believe there's no better place to learn and grow than the outdoors. Nature brings no expectations, no rigidity to how we explore it, making it an incredible place for kids to push their boundaries, develop new skills, and feed their natural desire to explore. Over the years, I've thought a lot about the notion of creating "yes spaces" -- spaces where parents don't need to constantly be saying "don't touch that," or "don't go that way." Nature is an inherent "yes space." As a mom of 2, I see the immense benefits that this type of space brings: my kids are their most confident, autonomous, bold selves when they get outdoors
All that said, getting outside with kids can be daunting. My hope is that First Peak -- and aligned brands like Morrison Outdoors -- can give parents that little boost to feel more confident stepping outside.

How Does Your Clothing Line Help Families Enjoy Nature?
All First Peak products are built for adventure: they're naturally odor-resistant, stain-resistant, quick-to-dry, and designed for movement. Our custom performance fabrics blend stretch and comfort with the traits adults find in the highest quality athleisure brands. What this means: kids can get messy and explore every nook and cranny they find, without their parents worrying about a messy, stained, soggy ride home.
Is There Anything Else You Would Like to Share?
I'm so proud to be a mom building this business, inspired by and alongside my two kids. I hope deeply that First Peak can inspire a love of adventure in kids everywhere.
And “adventure” doesn’t need to take the form of some epic ascent or round-the-world trip. I named my company First Peak to honor and celebrate all the peaks and milestones our little ones achieve, and will continue to achieve, whether in our backyards or 1000s of miles from home. Just getting outside is the perfect place to start.
