SAFE Sleep and New Sizing

As a company that specializes in keeping your little ones comfortable while sleeping at camp, safety has always been a top priority. This is especially true for your tiny adventurers as young as 6 months old. You may have noticed our SAFE sleep checklist listed on the website, which looks something like this:

Information on SAFE sleep from the Morrison Outdoors Website

These guidelines follow the expert advice straight from the American Academy of Pediatrics (which you can find on their patient care and SAFE sleep page).

You will also find important information on size, age, and safety on our website based on the size of the sleeping bag. Here is a breakdown of that information:

  1. Do NOT Size Up: This is especially important for our youngest kiddos (aged 6 – 18 months). Babies can slip inside a bag that is too large for them, causing a suffocation risk. Even with the Little Mo, ensure your baby’s head can not slip into the garment when it's fastened (this is particularly important for those little ones closer to the 6-month minimum age requirement).
  2. Monitor Child’s Temperature: Summer nights can be warmer than anticipated. If your little one is too warm or showing signs of overheating, remove them from the sleeping bag. You can check this by feeling their neck/body inside the bag or taking their temperature.
  3. The Fabric is Slippery! Check your grip when lifting your little one (our new sizes make this a bit more manageable). Also, don’t allow kiddos to walk in their bags. As tempting as it is, the slippery fabric can cause falls.
  4. Keep Far Away from Campfire and Ignition Sources: This might seem obvious, but for your little one's safety and to ensure no harm to their sleeping bag, keep your kiddo far away from that enticing campfire.

Why Did We Change Our Sizing Specifications?

We are continuously doing what we can to ensure that your little ones are safe and cozy while camping. If/when we see room for improvement, we take action and tweak whatever we feel would enhance the experience. In this case, questions and comments from our customers helped us make those tweaks to ensure that we have taken every precaution so you can sleep easy, enjoying the many benefits of camping with your family.

Does that mean our old sizes are unsafe? Definitely not! We just took our already awesome design and made it MORE awesome. We tweaked our sleeping bags for young adventurers to ensure they get the best fit possible. We like to call them enhancements, and here is what they entail:

Enhancements to the Morrison Sleeping Bags

Here are some of the new features of our newest Morrison Sleeping Bags

Open – and – Close Cuffs on ALL Bags

Every size, regardless of whether it’s in our Down or synthetic ratings, has open-and-close cuffs. This allows even our 6-month campers to have use of their digits while staying snuggly in their bags. Getting a little chilly at night? Simply fold the cuff over to trap in warmth.

Slimmer Waist

We took in the waist to provide a better fit for little ones and a better grip for their adults. They still have plenty of room to move around, but now the bag is less bulky for those little ones on the smaller end of the size specifications.

Sleeve Positioning

We moved the sleeve positioning up. This adds some extra protection to keep little arms in the sleeves and out of the body of the bag.

Sleeve Length

The sleeves on the Little Mo have been shortened considerably. This means the youngest wearers will have a minimum of excess fabric in their sleep area, providing an even safer sleep environment. The flip side is that the age range for our sleeping bags has been shortened since their arms will outgrow the sleeves earlier than before.

We strive to make it easier for adventurous parents to continue enjoying the outdoors knowing their little ones have a safe and comfy spot to rest at night.
