We sat down with Claire, the founder of Hootie Hoo, to learn more about how this brand was born and how they are helping kids become more resilient while enjoying nature.
What is Your Mission at Hootie Hoo?
At Hootie Hoo, our mission is to keep kids comfortable, happy, and excited about being outdoors. We are passionate about designing durable, sustainable, and thoughtfully crafted apparel that not only looks good but also functions well. We want to help children develop resilience and a deep love for nature, while also making sure our products are made responsibly and sustainably.
How Did Your Brand Start?
Hootie Hoo started because, as parents and outdoor industry veterans, we saw a real need for better kids’ gear. Most of what we found was either just a smaller, expensive version of adult products or not technical enough to keep kids dry and warm. Living in Vermont and raising our kids here, we wanted them to have the same quality gear that adults rely on. The idea really took off after one of our kids had a slightly bloody outdoor mishap during the pandemic, but bounced back and kept playing outside. That experience reinforced our belief in the power of the outdoors to build resilience in kids, and helped inspire us to create Hootie Hoo.
Why Do You Feel It’s Important for Families to Get Outdoors?
We truly believe that getting outside is one of the best things families can do together. Time in nature helps kids build resilience, confidence, and flexibility—not just from climbing hills, but from falling down them, too. They trip, they fail, they get muddy, and sometimes things don’t go as planned. Accidents happen, plans shift, and as a family, you learn to roll with it.
These are the moments that shape strong, capable kids—and bring families closer in the process. We’re big believers in more green time, less screen time. Outdoor adventures offer a chance to disconnect from devices and reconnect with each other while creating memories that last a lifetime.
How Do Your Products Help Families Enjoy Nature?
At Hootie Hoo, we design outerwear with kids and families in mind. Our jackets, pants, and snowsuits are made to be waterproof, breathable, and durable, so kids stay comfortable and protected, no matter the weather. Most of our summer gear features UPF 60+ sun protection, so parents can worry less about sunburn on hot, sunny days. Our goal is to make it easier for families to spend more time outdoors, knowing their kids are safe, from winter blizzards to summer heat, and happy while they explore.
